Hiring local talent helps CML overcome challenges such as language barriers, physical distance, and cultural differences, Brown said. The company has set up offices in Shanghai and Shenzhen, located in South China's Guangdong province, with support from Crayfish.io, a Cambridge-based firm assisting British businesses navigating in the Chinese market.
"It is about assuring the customers that you are there for them," he said.
Looking forward, Brown said CML plans to grow in the Chinese market through three strategies: tapping into existing products in the high-end market, entering the mid-range market by reducing manufacturing costs, and expanding its product offerings.
"I love the dynamism of the Chinese market, the attitude of getting on, doing it, and making things happen. I'd say to any businesses considering working in China that there is so much to learn from that attitude and relationship."
