According to a statement released on Wednesday by the administration for market regulation in Huadu district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, no prominent food safety hazards were found after three rounds of on-site inspections of Meisun brand food companies earlier this month.
The inspections came in response to media reports of accusations that Hong Kong Meisun mooncakes are not actually produced and sold in Hong Kong.
The mooncakes were previously promoted in livestream sessions by influencers associated with Sanzhiyang Network Technology, a company registered in Hefei, Anhui province. Reports of allegations that the company was advertising the delicacy incorrectly as being produced in Hong Kong fueled great online concern.
The statement said the inspections covered three Huadu district companies, including Guangzhou Meisun Food, Guangzhou Meisun Technology and Hong Kong Meisun Food Group.
None of the companies were found to have violated any regulations or laws in mooncake production and sales, said the statement.
Regulators also inspected 23 batches of mooncakes from 24 local mooncake manufacturing enterprises, said the statement, adding that the qualification rate of the mooncakes was 100 percent.
The statement also detailed the business licenses of the three companies to confirm that while Hong Kong Meisun Food Group owns the registered trademarks, including "Meisun" and "Hong Kong Meisun Mooncakes", it authorizes Guangzhou Meisun Food Company to use the trademarks. Guangzhou Meisun Food provides registration information and relevant trademark authorization documents for Hong Kong Meisun Food Group.
Guangzhou Meisun Food Company entrusts Guangzhou Meisun Technology Company to process the "Hong Kong Meisun Mooncake" product with a commissioned processing contract, the statement said.
Sanzhiyang Network Technology has removed the Hong Kong Meisun mooncakes from its shelves while an investigation of misleading consumers is conducted, media reported.
