Chinese innovators shine at BRICS Solutions Awards

Chinese innovators achieved remarkable success at the BRICS Solutions Awards, held during the BRICS-2024 Business Forum in Moscow.
Two of their projects won top prizes in the "Future Makers" category, while three were recognized at the broader BRICS Solutions Awards.
The competition highlighted cutting-edge projects from talented young scientists, researchers and innovators from across BRICS+ countries.
The winning projects from China spanned fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, energy storage and creative technologies, showcasing the country's growing leadership in global innovation and cooperation within the BRICS+ framework.
Under the Future Makers Category winners, the Agro-Environmental Protection Institute of China introduced Functional Microorganisms that can significantly reduce cadmium uptake in polluted farmlands, improving food safety and enhancing the nutritional value of crops like rice and wheat.
The other winner, BRICS Skills and Technology Standardization Working Committee is facilitating the standardization of skill training across BRICS countries, promoting vocational education and talent development. This initiative strengthens BRICS collaboration in critical fields like artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
Under the BRICS Solutions Award, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China pioneered a groundbreaking project with the development and application of a 100B-Level Parameter Financial Large Language Model.
This project addresses significant gaps in financial industry applications for Large Language Model, empowering over 20 business domains and completing more than 500 million service calls.
The Midas Touch project by China National Petroleum Corporation's Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development focused on utilizing underground storage spaces for energy and carbon storage, offering solutions to the global energy trilemma.
With its high security, affordability and sustainability, the project promotes energy security and low-cost carbon reduction.
Another winner, Amazon's VR.SHI project is a unique cross-cultural initiative that uses virtual reality (VR) to combine poetry, visual art and innovative technology, showcasing the shared artistic traditions of Russia and China. This project demonstrates the power of human creativity and cultural exchange in the digital age.
"We are confident that the future belongs to those who create innovations today," Tatyana Zhuravleva, head of the Melnichenko Foundation and founder of the BRICS+ League of Foundations said.
She said the Award brought together young scientists and innovators from BRICS+ countries whose ideas and developments are already shaping the world of tomorrow.
"We are proud to support these projects on their path to global change," Zhuravleva said.
