Xenotransplantation has made great progress as an important way to solve the global shortage of organ transplant donors, conference participants said.
Many medical and research institutions worldwide are promoting research on xenotransplantation, and more centers are paying high attention to the issue, said Leo Buhler, former president of the International Xenotransplantation Association.
As a pioneer in xenotransplantation research, China has conducted numerous subclinical studies on transplanting gene-edited pig kidneys, livers, lungs and red blood cells into humans.
Several sets of research results from Chengdu Clonorgan Biotechnology Co Ltd have been reported on by the international journal Nature.
