Sound of silence
In Delighting in Rain on a Spring Night, the 8th-century poem by Du Fu, one often-quoted verse goes, "Secretly (spring rain) follows wind into night; without a sound, its moisture revives things with tenderness". This line is the inspiration for the title of a new exhibition of the work of painter Yin Shuyu at the Hubei Museum of Art, in Wuhan, Hubei province. In Chinese, the title also echoes the artist's given name, which translates as "timely rain". It is an exhibition of Yin's latest flower-and-bird paintings, a classic genre of Chinese painting, and a tranquil world of animated lives rendered in loose brush strokes and softened tones, which will soothe the hearts of those who see them. The exhibition runs until Dec 15.
9 am-5 pm, closed on Mondays. 68 Huanglilu, Wuchang district, Wuhan, Hubei province. 027-8679-6062.
