In winter, the atmosphere of Beijing's 798 art zone is quite different from the hustle and bustle of other seasons. Visitors are few in number, and the area is quiet most of the time.
To inject a little vigor, a public sculpture festival opened on Thursday. Work by 10 artists has been installed in squares around the zone, and will be on display until February.
Condensed Scenery, the name of the event, and which is curated by Sun Dongdong, seeks to give people a reason not to remain indoors immersed in the digital world, but to go outside to see the kind of art that not only adds to the city, but also lends itself to contemplation.
