Taizhou-Dongwu line ready for peak winter season

The world's first ultra-high voltage gas insulated underground power line (GIL) - the 1,000 kilovolt Taizhou-Dongwu overhead-GIL hybrid line, has completed its annual maintenance earlier this month, ensuring its safe and stable operation during the peak winter season to meet the reliable power supply needs in East China.

The Taizhou-Dongwu line spans a total length of 331.14 kilometers, linking the Taizhou power station and Dongwu station in Jiangsu province. This power line is a crucial component of East China's ultra-high voltage power transmission network, with a daily electricity transmission capacity of 150 million kilowatt-hours, equivalent to the annual power consumption of 60,000 households.

As the peak winter period approaches and to reduce risks posed by extreme weather to the stable operation of the power grid, the State Grid's Jiangsu Power Company has proactively deployed and formulated winter equipment maintenance and operation support plans, conducting comprehensive maintenance and upgrades on the power lines to further enhance its operational efficiency.

"Prior to the maintenance, we conducted a devised daily operation plan to ensure resource allocation," said Li Jipeng, a specialist in the maintenance department at the power company. The maintenance period for this annual check-up lasted 15 days, with a total deployment of 186 staff members.

According to the company, since its commissioning in 2019, the Taizhou-Dongwu ultra-high voltage line has transmitted over 80 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to Jiangsu and Shanghai, significantly contributing to the region's power supply reliability.
