During the first 11 months of the year, Shanghai Port handled 50.56 million TEUs of containers, up 6.7 percent year-on-year and reaching the 50-million-TEUs target one month earlier than last year, according to data released by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co Ltd (SIPG), manager of the public terminals in the Shanghai Port on Tuesday.

The whole-year container throughput is expected to reach a new high in 2025, helping Shanghai Port retain its position as the world's largest of its kind for the 16th consecutive year.

These achievements have reflected China's strong economic resilience, potential, and had also mirrored the continued improvement in the service capacity of Shanghai as an international shipping center, executives from SIPG said.

Shanghai Yangshan Deep Water Port in the southwestern part of the city is the biggest contributor to the new record. It handled 26.25 million TEUs of containers during the first 11 months, up 9.7 percent year-on-year, according to SIPG.
