A memorial exhibition honoring Hong Kong business magnate Dr. Lee Shau-kee opened in Beijing last week.
Through a cultural showcase, the exhibition, A Light Among Us, invites students and the wider public to reflect on Lee's philosophy of humility, dedication, and quiet influence.
The opening ceremony took place at the Lee Shau Kee Humanities Building at Peking University. Among the guests attending were Lee's eldest daughter Lee Pui-man, Peking University Party Secretary He Guangcai, and Vice-President Piao Shilong, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with other distinguished guests who jointly inaugurated the exhibition.
Lee Pui-man expressed her gratitude to the many partners who helped make the exhibition possible.
"We are deeply grateful for this opportunity to share my father's life and achievements with the public," she said.
"Education was always very close to his heart, especially the cultivation of talent at leading universities. He considered it a great honor to contribute to the development of education in China."
The exhibition is organized into four sections: Lee's early life and his decision to move to Hong Kong; the founding of his business ventures and his insight into emerging industry opportunities; his philanthropic efforts in education and public welfare; and the enduring spirit that continues to guide the future development of his enterprises.
For the first time, the exhibition brings together a collection of Lee's personal photographs and treasured items for mainland audiences, offering a closer look at the life and business philosophy of the founder of Henderson Land Development.
The exhibition at Peking University runs from March 14 to April 16, after which it will be presented at Tsinghua University from April 22 to May 25. Organizers say it will later travel to other cities and universities across China and will be open to the public.
Over the years, Lee and Henderson Land Development have provided sustained support for higher education in Chinese mainland, contributing to campus development, research initiatives, and scholarship programs while maintaining close ties with several leading universities. These efforts reflect the group's long-standing commitment to nurturing young talent and supporting future generations.
