Attackers are exploiting tools targeting Apple terminals to launch cyberattacks that can lead to information theft and full device compromise, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has warned.
According to the National Vulnerability Database, a platform operated by the ministry, the ongoing attacks affect Apple devices running iOS versions 13.0 through 17.2.1, including iPhones and iPads.
The attackers lure victims via text messages, emails or compromised webpages into using Safari to visit malicious sites. By chaining together existing security vulnerabilities in the devices, they implant remote access trojans into the targeted terminals, steal sensitive user information, gain the highest privileges, and ultimately take control of the devices.
The platform urged users of affected Apple products to update their operating systems to the latest available versions as soon as possible, avoid clicking on suspicious links or attachments, and remain vigilant against unsolicited messages or webpages.
