Mastercard, a leading US-based payment technology company, and Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com signed a strategic cooperation agreement in Beijing on Friday aimed at driving innovation and building a more connected, secure, and intelligent commercial ecosystem.
The two companies will further integrate and enhance global payment connectivity by developing a payment infrastructure to support JD.com's international business expansion and broaden application scenarios in global commerce, according to the agreement.
Both parties will also jointly explore a cross-border supply chain finance ecosystem to support global small and medium-sized businesses, improve access to financing, and enable enterprises to participate in international trade more efficiently.
"This is the natural next phase in our long-standing relationship with JD.com," Michael Miebach, CEO of Mastercard, said. "Our shared creativity, deep experience, and cutting-edge technology will provide people and businesses with the seamless and secure solutions they're looking for, all while making everyday activities easier and more rewarding. Mastercard will continue to be a bridge between China and the world."
Miebach was part of the US business delegation accompanying US President Donald Trump during his three-day state visit to China, which concluded on Friday.
"By combining JD.com's strengths in digital retail, logistics, and supply chain infrastructure with Mastercard's expertise in payments, we will jointly explore next-generation commerce and payment experiences powered by advanced technologies and artificial intelligence, helping shape the future of the digital economy," Xu Ran, CEO of JD.com, said.
The two companies will deepen cooperation to expand payment options for international visitors to China, including supporting broader acceptance of international credit cards and optimizing checkout, shopping, and tax refund services across JD.com's e-commerce platforms and offline retail channels.
They will also explore agentic AI-powered purchasing solutions for individuals and businesses through Mastercard Agent Pay and advance co-branded card initiatives.
Meanwhile, JD.com and Mastercard will strengthen cooperation in risk management, identity authentication, and intelligent anti-fraud solutions. By enhancing real-time risk monitoring and fraud prevention capabilities, the partnership aims to improve transaction security and strengthen the resilience and stability of digital commerce.
