Shanghai vice-mayor probed for alleged discipline violations

Chen Yujian, vice-mayor of Shanghai, has been placed under investigation for suspected serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-graft authorities said on Wednesday.

The investigation is being conducted by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision.

According to public information, Chen, 56, is a native of Shandong province. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1992 and began his career in 1993.

Chen has spent most of his career in Shanghai. He previously served as head of Songjiang district, as well as head and Party secretary of Minhang district.

He was appointed vice-mayor of Shanghai at the end of 2023 and remained in the post until being placed under investigation.
