China urges vigilance over Japan's proposed security changes

China on Wednesday blasted a Japanese draft proposal that seeks to revise the country's key security documents, calling on the international community to remain vigilant on the dangerous move.

Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party on Tuesday approved a draft proposal to revise the country's three key security documents later this year.

According to Kyodo News, the proposal, formalized at the party's decision-making General Council, called for securing necessary funding to transform Japan's defense capabilities within five years.

The draft proposal once again exposes some Japanese forces' attempts to seek remilitarization, break free from post-war norms and accelerate military buildup, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian told a daily news conference.

Lin stated that the draft proposal wantonly criticized and smeared China's normal military activities and hyped up tensions surrounding Japan, with the intention to deceive the Japanese public and the international community.

Japan's right-wing forces have been steering Japan's security policy toward an offensive and expansionary direction, seeking to embed military expansion and war preparedness into national institutions, economic infrastructure and public opinion, he noted.

Step by step, they are trying to chip away at the constraints imposed by Japan's Constitution, international law and domestic legislation, renounce their international obligations and challenge the post-war international order, Lin said.

This trajectory is becoming more obvious and poses a real danger, Lin said, calling on the international community to remain highly vigilant and nip it in the bud.
