Geely's new energy commercial vehicle unit Farizon unveiled its latest lineup at the 2026 International Automotive and Supply Chain Expo (Hong Kong) on Thursday, as the city pushes to decarbonise its transport sector – the second-largest source of carbon emissions.
Hong Kong, which topped Time Out magazine's 2025 rankings of the world's best public transport systems, has set a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
But the city's dense population and limited land have constrained charging infrastructure, creating a need for tailored solutions.
Farizon said its "methanol plus electric" approach offers a practical pathway.
The company has already deployed multiple new energy models across Hong Kong, with its SV delivered to the city's Big Bee taxi fleet.
A Farizon double-decker bus made its Hong Kong debut at the expo, featuring customised livery and interiors for local public transport needs.
The U12M methanol-electric bus has received emissions exemption approval from Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department and is set to begin commercial operations in August.
On Wednesday, Hong Kong Polytechnic University released a white paper on decarbonising the city's public bus system, validating Farizon's multi-energy approach as aligned with Hong Kong's green transport needs.
Beyond on-road vehicles, Farizon is applying methanol-electric technology to mobile power units capable of 24-hour charging for up to four electric vehicles simultaneously – addressing Hong Kong's uneven charging station distribution.
Also on the expo's opening day, Farizon signed a strategic partnership with CaoCao, Geely's ride-hailing unit, to deploy 100,000 Robovan units by 2030, accelerating the development of an AI-powered logistics network.
