Construction began on June 18 for the Dalad-Mengxi 1,000-kilovolt ultra-high-voltage (UHV) alternating current transmission and transformation project, marking the 10th UHV power transmission corridor in North China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region.

The project starts at the Dalad UHV substation and ends at the Ordos UHV substation, passing through Dalad Banner and Juungar Banner in Ordos city. It includes the construction of one new 1,000-kV UHV substation, 248.8 kilometers of transmission lines, and 393 transmission towers.

With a total investment of 4.25 billion yuan ($627.12 million), the project was jointly developed by State Grid Inner Mongolia Eastern Power Co and Inner Mongolia Power Group, and is scheduled to be completed and commissioned in September 2027.

The new corridor will support the safe and stable operation of the West Inner Mongolia-Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei ±800-kV UHV direct current transmission project and facilitate the delivery and consumption of renewable energy generated from the northern and central sections of the Kubuqi Desert energy base in Ordos.

It will also strengthen connections among UHV transmission channels in western Inner Mongolia, improve the region's power grid structure, and enhance the grid's capacity to transmit large-scale renewable energy from desert areas.

The project is expected to play an important role in promoting clean energy use, converting western China's resource advantages into economic benefits, and supporting the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
