The executive committee overseeing the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin has completed an institutional reform, bringing nine newly established or renamed bureaus into full operation, according to an official statement on Friday.

The nine bureaus now operating under the executive committee cover administration and legal affairs; development, reform and statistics; finance; industrial development; financial development; people's livelihood; commercial services; urban planning and construction; and talent development and social security.

The reform aims to sharpen the committee's functions and improve service efficiency in support of deeper integration between the zone and the Macao Special Administrative Region, the statement said. Working bodies under the committee would complete functional handovers in an orderly manner, it added.

Located at the mouth of the Pearl River, the zone on Hengqin Island covers 106.7 square kilometers and is expected to register about 80,000 workers from Macao by 2035 as part of its goal of promoting moderate and diversified economic development in the SAR.
