A zoo in Guigang, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, issued an urgent notice late on Wednesday after floodwaters caused multiple animals to escape from their enclosures.
The Guigang Zoo said prolonged rainfall brought by Typhoon Maysak, the 10th typhoon of this year, damaged several animal enclosures, allowing a number of them to flee.
The missing animals are classified into four categories: Large animals include two zebras, one hump cow, three ponies, two donkeys, two ostriches, two emus; medium-sized animals include nine spotted deer, five argali, 13 goats, and three alpacas; small and avian animals include 30 peacocks, two North American raccoons, nine miniature pigs, four porcupines, four beavers, six turkeys, eight colorful pheasants, and four guinea pigs; birds include four red green cockatoos, five blue gold cockatoos, and dozens of other types of parrots.
The zoo, located in a scenic area in the Qintang district of Guigang, urged the public to provide any information on the animals' whereabouts.
It also warned that some escaped animals, including ostriches, emus and raccoons, may become aggressive after being frightened by the flooding.
Anyone who spots the animals is advised to keep a safe distance and avoid attempting to capture or approach them to prevent injury, the zoo suggested.
