The landslide occurred around 9 am on Friday in Pengshui Miao and Tujia autonomous county. At 10 am, the ministry activated a Level-III emergency response for geological disasters, upgrading it to Level-II two hours later. As of 2 pm, rescue teams had pulled 10 people from the debris, with rescue efforts ongoing. A work team of 12 people led by Xu Dachun, vice-minister of natural resources, is at the site to guide local authorities in rescue operations and emergency disposal of debris.

Following the collapse, the ministry swiftly mobilized professional teams to deploy over 10 sets of specialized monitoring equipment on unstable slopes behind the disaster area and within search-and-rescue zones to support safe operations.

An emergency surveying and mapping response was also launched, with teams producing pre- and post-disaster remote sensing imagery, comparative topographic maps, and 3D realistic models for use by the frontline command headquarters, while coordinating satellite imagery acquisition.
