Seventy athletes signed up for the individual sprint challenge. Zhang Ziyang claimed the men's championship with a time of 11 minutes and 33 seconds, while Xia Zixuan took the women's title in 12 minutes and 52 seconds.

Born in 2001, Zhang's impressive track record includes the men's 10km marathon swimming gold medal at the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games.

"Though this is my fourth championship here, I still felt immense pressure heading into today's race," Zhang said.

"The current was ideal, so I'm overjoyed to claim the title once more."
