The outcomes achieved through negotiation were hard-won, and the return of war serves no one's interests, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday following the latest round of escalation of tensions in the Middle East and Gulf region.
China is deeply concerned over the situation, the ministry's spokesman Lin Jian said, calling on relevant parties to remain calm and restraint, stop hostilities, resume contacts and dialogue and resolve disputes through political and diplomatic means.
The sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of regional countries should be respected and upheld, Lin said.
China stands ready to make further efforts to facilitate the end of fighting and work relentlessly to cool down the situation and restore peace to the region, he said.
