Pastry firm says dental crown in product claim inaccurate

Chinese pastry brand Luxihe has denied that any metal dental crowns have been found in its products in a statement issued Friday that emphasized the company's commitment to food safety.

The statement came in response to a video posted by a netizen from Dalian, Liaoning province, who claimed to have discovered a suspected metal dental crown in a nut pastry purchased from a Sam's Club store.

Friday's statement said that the consumer, surnamed Zhang, has since clarified that the online video, which went viral, was not accurate and that she has since deleted it and apologized to the company. Luxihe stated that it took into account the fact that the incident involved an elderly individual.

Following the initial complaint, Sam's Club said it promptly removed and sealed the affected batch of products from its shelves and was cooperating with regulatory authorities in an investigation. Luxihe said it also formed a special task force to inspect its production processes and proactively reported the situation to regulatory authorities, inviting them to inspect the factory.

In its Friday statement, Luxihe insisted that it took the matter seriously and that, after conducting a thorough internal review of its production control systems, raw materials and product samples, it had ruled out the possibility of a metal dental crown contaminating its nut pastries. The company added that inspections by government regulators and a third-party organization also found no evidence of such contamination.

Luxihe said food safety is its top priority and added that it welcomes public oversight as it continues to provide high-quality products to consumers.
