Earthquake in Sichuan leaves one dead, six injured

One person was killed and six others injured when a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck Gaoxian county in Yibin, Sichuan province, at 1:08 pm on Friday, local authorities said.
According to the China Earthquake Networks Center, the earthquake struck at a depth of 6 kilometers.
The Sichuan provincial and Yibin city earthquake relief headquarters dispatched working groups to guide emergency response efforts immediately after the earthquake. A total of 17 rescue teams, 183 personnel, 44 vehicles and 552 sets of equipment were deployed to the affected area, according to a statement released by Yibin's earthquake relief headquarters.
Preliminary assessments showed no houses collapsed, but 100 households reported damage. Power, telecommunications, gas, water conservancy and residential water supply facilities in the quake zone were in normal operation, the statement said.
Relief efforts are still underway, and social order in the affected areas remains stable, it added.
