The Ministry of Water Resources and the China Meteorological Administration on Saturday jointly issued a red alert for mountain flood risks, warning of possible severe flooding in parts of East China's Zhejiang province.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Water Resources on its official WeChat account, the alert is effective from 8 pm Saturday to 8 pm Sunday.

During this period, some areas in eastern Zhejiang are expected to face a high risk of mountain floods, with localized areas facing an extremely higher risk, according to the alert. An orange alert has been issued for areas with a high possibility of mountain floods, while a red alert has been issued for regions where such disasters are highly likely.

Other regions may also experience mountain floods triggered by short-duration intense rainfall, the alert said.

Authorities have urged local governments in affected areas to strengthen real-time monitoring, improve flood prevention warnings and take timely measures, including organizing evacuations to ensure people's safety.
