Shanghai transport resumes as typhoon weakens

The outer rainbands from Typhoon Dolphin continue to drench Shanghai, prompting authorities to keep top tourist spots closed while regional transport gradually resumes regular services on Tuesday.

Although downgraded to a tropical storm after its center moved over Hubei province on Tuesday morning, the system continues to dump rain over Shanghai. A city-wide blue rainstorm alert remains in effect, with gusts reaching scale 7–8 along riverside and coastal areas. Separate yellow gale alerts remain in force for Jinshan and Qingpu districts. The city will feel muggy, with highs around 30 C. Forecasters expect persistent showers through Friday, with conditions finally clearing by Saturday.

Shanghai's tourism sector is taking safety precautions. All Suzhou Creek cruises remain suspended for the day to ensure passenger safety, and Zhujiajiao, the popular ancient water town, remains closed due to flooding and slippery pathways; the site will undergo safety inspections and cleanup before reopening.

Meanwhile, regional transportation is bouncing back. The Shanghai Ferry Company confirmed that all urban routes across the Huangpu River have fully resumed operations.

China Railway Shanghai Group has begun restoring passenger train schedules across the Yangtze River Delta region, including the Hangzhou-Shenzhen and Shanghai-Kunming lines, among other key routes. Major stations like Hangzhou and Hefei have opened extra windows to process ticket refunds for stranded passengers, while engineering crews inspect facilities to ensure travel safety. Railway authorities emphasize that schedules will continue to be adjusted dynamically based on real-time weather conditions.
