China's postal bureau reports jump in mail revenue

China's postal and courier industry handled 127.44 billion items from January-July, up 4.2 percent year-on-year, the State Post Bureau said on Friday.

Industry revenue reached almost 1.08 trillion yuan ($160.1 billion) during the period, a 6.1 percent increase, the bureau said. The revenue figure excludes direct operating income from the Postal Savings Bank of China.

The growth came as courier companies are increasingly embedding themselves in industrial production chains, repositioning from pure delivery providers into comprehensive supply-chain partners.

Wang Yuehan, director of the industrial economics department at the Development and Research Center of the State Post Bureau, said the sector is deepening its presence in specialized segments with customized services.

Average daily deliveries stand at about 550 million items, she added, providing solid logistics support for the economy and consumption.
