Five dead after boat capsizes on Yunnan's Nanpan River

Five people have died after a small privately owned boat capsized last week on the Nanpan River in Yuxi, Yunnan province, local authorities said on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at around 6 pm on Aug 12 in Huaning county, when six people aboard the boat fell into the water. One person was rescued, while five others were initially reported missing.

As of 8 am on Saturday, two of the missing people had been found and confirmed dead. The remaining three were later located and confirmed dead, bringing the death toll to five, according to the information office of the Huaning county government on Tuesday.

More than 470 personnel from emergency management, fire and rescue, and public security authorities in Yuxi and Huaning were mobilized for the search and rescue operation.

Post-incident arrangements are underway in an orderly manner, authorities said.
