Hangzhou police have detained two suspects after a woman was allegedly subjected to forcible indecency at a karaoke venue, authorities said in a statement on Tuesday.

An investigation and handling group set up by the Hangzhou municipal government issued the statement on Tuesday, saying local police had received a report from a member of the public alleging an assault. As the case involved alleged misconduct and violations of law by a public employee, the Hangzhou municipal Party committee and government attached great importance to the case and immediately established the investigation and handling group, according to the statement.

The investigation found that on the evening of July 26, suspects Zhao, a male senior executive of a company, and Yu, a male public employee in Hangzhou's Binjiang district, allegedly committed indecent acts against the victim while at a karaoke venue after dinner.

During the incident, Zhao allegedly pushed the victim to the ground, causing an injury to her lower back. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital and has been preliminarily assessed by a judicial appraisal institution as having sustained a second-degree minor injury.

Police have placed Zhao and Yu under criminal detention in accordance with the law, and the case is still under investigation.

Yu has been removed from his post, while Zhao has been dismissed by his employer.

Disciplinary and supervisory authorities have received relevant leads and will conduct an investigation in accordance with Party discipline, regulations and the law, the statement said, stressing that there would be no leniency.
