Shandong province will promote its green power direct connection and take further steps to enhance green electricity consumption, officials from the government information office said at a news conference on Tuesday.

The province is exploring integrated pathways for new energy production and consumption to meet the diverse low-carbon transition needs of different users.

Seven green power direct connection projects have been approved and implemented across the province, covering sectors such as battery manufacturing, chemicals and metal processing.

Ma Shujie, a provincial energy administration official, said that the direct connection concept uses dedicated transmission lines to link new energy generation stations with electricity loads and establish a clear physical interface with the public grid. This approach is designed to meet the requirements of green trade rules and carbon emission controls.

The province has long supported key energy-consuming enterprises with an annual comprehensive energy consumption of more than 10,000 metric tons of standard coal equivalent, as well as industrial parks and zero-carbon parks with favorable surrounding new energy resources, in carrying out multi-user green power direct connection projects.

As of July, the installed capacity of green energy in Shandong province accounted for 55.8 percent of the province's total installed power generation capacity. Of that, biomass power, solar power and wind power ranked first, second, and fifth nationally, respectively.
