China opposes Australia's termination of university cooperation

China voiced opposition to Australia's move to terminate cooperation agreements between Australian and Chinese universities on Tuesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular news briefing in response to reports that Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong recently demanded that the Australian National University and the University of Queensland terminate their respective collaboration with China's Shandong University and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

"China opposes abusing the concept of national security to restrict and go after normal international cooperation on education and research," Lin said.
