China has formally unveiled its delegation for the 48th WorldSkills Competition, with 71 competitors set to take part across all 64 skill categories at the September event in Shanghai, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security announced on Sunday.
The 220-strong delegation comprises 49 students and 22 workers among its competitors, drawn from 21 provincial-level regions. Competitors have an average age of 21, ranging from 18 to 25.
It will be China's eighth showing at the biennial contest, and the third time the country has fielded entrants in every discipline.
Since joining WorldSkills International in 2010, China has accumulated 93 gold, 41 silver and 28 bronze medals, alongside 71 excellence awards, across the previous seven competitions. It has topped both the gold medal table and the overall team rankings for four successive editions.
Held from Sept 22-27 in Shanghai, the competition will feature a record number of newly added skill events, spanning drone systems to smart security technologies. Organizers said the expanded lineup is intended to reflect evolving industry trends and technological progress.
The national delegation was approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the government body responsible for China's participation in the global skills contest.
