BEIJING - The European Commission's anti-dumping and anti-subsidy probes into Chinese steel products are "unreasonable" and will harm Chinese companies' legal rights, the Ministry of Commerce said Wednesday.

In documents published last month, the EU executive arm said high anti-dumping and countervailing duties should be imposed on Chinese producers of organic coated steel, MOC spokesman Shen Danyang told a press conference here.

Shen told reporters the commission ignored facts and evidence in making the decision.

"Such a conclusion based on unreasonable investigations will seriously hurt Chinese companies' legal rights and interests," he said.

A final ruling is yet to be made by the commission.

China has demanded the commission to withdraw the decision and end the investigations, Shen said.

The MOC will closely follow the development of the case and reserve the right to deal with the dispute within the legal framework of the World Trade Organization, he noted.

Organic coated steel is widely used in construction, transport and electrical equipment.
