BEIJING - Chinese customs' anti-smuggling officers have detained 14 suspects in connection with a smuggling case that involved about 400 million yuan($63.5 million) worth of photographic and video equipment, customs authorities said Wednesday.

Another one was out on bail pending trial, according to the authorities.

Officers at Gongbei Customs, Zhuhai city, South China's Guangdong province, said the smuggling ring has transported 60,204 cameras from Hong Kong to Guangdong from January 2011 to February15, 2012.

In the mean time, they have also smuggled 13,623 professional lenses, 483 photoflashes, 1,025 video cameras and 348 projectors.

Pang Qiming, deputy head of the Gongbei Customs, said smugglers have organized to take cameras from Hong Kong to Macao and then hire local drivers to bring the goods to Guangdong, where they would be sold to clients in Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou.

The case is now under further investigation, Pang said.
