BEIJING - Property developers topped China's list of charitable donors in 2011, and Chinese billionaire Cao Dewang remained the most generous benefactor, according to a charity rating list published Friday by the China Association of Social Workers.
Cao, president of Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co. Ltd., kept the top position on the donor list for donating shares fetching a market value of 3.55 billion yuan ($563.5 million) to finance a charity fund last year, Beijing-based Jinghua Times reported Saturday, citing the list.
The list also includes the top 231 individual benefactors in the past year who donated a total of nearly 8 billion yuan, as well as 605 enterprises that made donations totaling 10.45 billion yuan. Of the 605 enterprises, 392 were private ones that donated 5.25 billion yuan in 2011.
Thirty-one charitable donors have each donated more than 100 million yuan, and their donations totaled more than 9.6 billion yuan. Of the 31, 22 were enterprises. Among them, enterprises related to real estate development topped all other industries by contributing 4.8 billion yuan.
Five Chinese lottery winners were also included in the list for their donations totaling 28 million yuan. Of the five lottery winners, one who grabbed a 565-million-yuan prize in East China's Zhejiang province last year donated 20 million yuan.
