Zhang Baoshun was elected secretary of East China's Anhui Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China on Oct 30, 2011.
Zhang was elected to the post at the first plenary session of the 9th CPC Anhui Provincial Committee held in Hefei, the provincial capital.
In January, Zhang was elected as the Chairman of the Standing Committee of People's Congress of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Zhang, born in 1950 and a native of Qinhuangdao city in North China's Hebei province joined the CPC in 1971.
Zhang obtained a masters degree on economics from Jilin University, in Northeast China's Jilin province, in 1992.
Before he was appointed to his current position in May 2010, Zhang had been the Communist Party chief of the northern coal-rich province of Shanxi since 2005.
Zhang, became vice governor and acting governor of Shanxi province in north China on January 10, 2004. In June 2005, he was appointed as secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee.
He became deputy secretary of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee in 2001.
Zhang once served as secretary of the Secretariat of the China Communist Youth League's Central Committee.
He spent more than eight years working at Xinhua News Agency from 1993 to 2001 and was the deputy director of the agency
Zhang also was a member of the 14th CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and now is a member of the 17th CPC Central Committee.
