Guo Shengkun was elected Communist Party chief of south China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on Nov 15, 2011.
Guo was elected secretary of the Guangxi Zhuang Regional Committee of the Communist Party of China at the first plenary session of the 10th CPC Guangxi Zhuang Regional Committee held in Nanning, the region's capital.
Guo, native of Xingguo county in Jiangxi province and born in October 1954, joined the Communist Party of China in December 1974. He graduated from Jiangxi Institute of Metallurgy, majoring in mineral processing with a Master's degree in engineering.
He worked at the Wuliting Commune in Xingguo County, Jiangxi province from 1973 to 1977. After that Guo spent two years studying mineral processing in the Department of Mining at the Jiangxi Institute of Metallurgy (renamed Jiangxi University of Science and Technology in 2004).
Guo served as the Party branch secretary, deputy supervisor of production, deputy director of administration, director of tungsten mechanical mineral processing plant under the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry from 1979 to 1985:
After that Guo worked years at China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation.
From 1994 to 1996, Guo studied management engineering in the Central South University's Department of Management Engineering and obtained a Masters degree.
From 1999 to 2000, Guo served as Deputy Director and member in the Party Leadership Group of the State Bureau of Nonferrous Metal Industry.
He became the Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for State-owned Key Large Enterprises in 2000.
From 2001 to 2004, Guo was the general manager and secretary of Party Leadership Group of Aluminum Corporation of China and board chairman and president of the Aluminum Corporation of China Limited.
Since 2007, Guo started serving as the Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
New vice governor
Wei Chao'an was appointed as deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in November, 2011. Before the appointment Wei was the Vice-Minister of Agriculture.
