On December 1, 1945, Kuomintang military and police forces in Kunming killed many patriotic teachers and students in a bloody crackdown against anti-war protestors, which is known as the December 1 Tragedy of 1945. From January 10-31, 1946, a political consultative conference was held in Chongqing, as required by the October 10 Agreement of 1945.
