A local legislator in the prosperous Pearl River delta city of Dongguan, Guangdong province, has been expelled from the Party for serious violations of Party discipline.

According to the Guangdong Provincial Party Commission of Discipline Inspection, Ou Lingao, deputy director of Dongguan's top legislative body, has also been dismissed from public office.

The Party's top anti-graft body in Guangdong will further investigate Ou's case, a statement from the body said.

Ou was suspected to have taken large bribes in many separate cases when he was Party chief of Dongguan's Qingxi township, deputy secretary-general of the Dongguan City Committee of the Communist Party of China and Party chief of the city's Chang'an township in the previous years.

The statement did not reveal how much Ou is alleged to have accepted in bribes.

In addition to hongbao, (red envelopes used to give cash to officials), Ou was also believed to have accepted many golden and expensive products, the statement said.

Ou's behavior is suspected to have broken Chinese laws and relevant regulations and rules, said the statement.
