10 artists showcase pioneering digital work

Art beat in February

The National Research Center of Contemporary Art has teamed up with 10 pioneering artists in the digital art field to present their latest 2-D and 3-D animation works, providing a glimpse into the creation and research of digital art in recent years. Digital art has emerged as an important genre since the 1980s and is often featured at international art fairs. Participating artists include Cui Xiuwen, a vanguard photographer and video artist whose debut video work Washroom is hailed as a critical account of social transformation in the late 1990s, and Feng Mengbo, a graduate from the Central Academy of Fine Arts' engraving department, who became one of the earliest Chinese artists focusing on how the cyber world influences people.

Textile designer's show

Art beat in February

An exhibition of paintings by French textile designer Aurelie Philippe will kick off at Kui Yuan Gallery this Saturday. Philippe's paintings are greatly influenced by her job and are colorful, romantic and natural. The exhibits include collages, acrylic paintings as well as mixed-material creations. The exhibition is part of the 50th anniversary of Sino-French relations celebration presented by the consulate general of France in Guangzhou. Bruno Bisson, consul general, will give a lecture on the Sino-French relationship and the cultural communication between the two countries at Saturday's opening ceremony.
