No Lights No Lycra

The 2009 brainchild of two Aussie dance instructors, No Lights No Lycra provides a non-judgmental space to shake, shimmy and get down like nobody's watching. The poor lighting may smack of Central's more pretentious establishments but the carefree attitude will seem a world apart. The night doubles as a charity event for the Cambodian cause Tiny Toones.

7:30 pm, March 4. Free. XXX Gallery, B/F, 353-363 Des Voeux Road. West, Sai Ying Pun.

Lacquer paintings show

Lacquer paintings by contemporary artist Su Xiaobai will be on display at Pearl Lam Galleries Hong Kong. The exhibition Painting and Being, curated by Paul Moorhouse, presents the artist's recent works, ranging from exquisitely rendered, shell-like finishes to sensuous, curved profiles and abraded textures. The works imbue traditional materials with Modernist notions of color theory, which Su learned at the Dusseldorf Art Academy under Gerhard Richter in Germany.

10 am-7 pm, May 14-July 15. Pearl Lam Galleries, 601-605, 6/F, Pedder Building, 12 Pedder Street, Central. 852-2522-1428.
