4. Edible herbs
People like edible wild herbs since they are considered unpolluted “green food” from nature. Their healthful, medicinal values also draw people and make them a new market favorite. Because of its many mountains, dense forests, and heavy rainfall, Dandong has ample edible herb resources.
The people here have found 80 types of wild herbs and more than 5,000 tons are picked every year. In recent years, they have made great progress in the production, processing and export of edible wild herbs and Dandong has been able to cultivate them artificially. The area under artificial cultivation exceeds 2,000 mu (133 hectares), and output, more than 2,000 tons. More than 100 tons are processed and exported each year.
