Shanxi Province, one of China's major coal production bases, planned to increase its coal production capacity by 100 million tons this year, according to the provincial coal authorities.
The extra coal will come from 100 hundred mines that finish restructuring and technological innovation.
To the end of April, the province has stared the construction or restructuring of 694 coal mines.
Currently, China has 37 large coal mines with an annual capacity of 10 million tons which have started production or are under construction. Ten of these mines are in Shanxi Province, turning out 872 million tons of coal in 2011, 581 million tons of which were sold outside the province.
In the following four years, Shanxi will limit its annual capacity under one billion tons.
