Singapore's emeritus senior minister to visit China

Singapore's Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong is scheduled to visit China from Friday to next Monday, the city-state's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

He will visit Beijing and Tianjin in China.

The foreign ministry said Goh is visiting Tianjin to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City, which is the second government-to-government project between Singapore and China.

During his stay in Beijing, Goh will meet Chinese vice premier Zhang Gaoli, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

During his stay in Tianjin, he will meet Sun Chunlan, secretary of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee and a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee. He will also participate in the commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the Tianjin Eco-City and deliver the keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the fourth China (Binhai Tianjin) International Eco- City Forum and Expo on Sunday.

Goh will be accompanied by Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan, as well as some senior officials, the foreign ministry said.
