The city of Tianjin has officially began applying its air pollution regulations, on March 1, meaning the public will need to get more involved in preventing air pollution, which mostly comes from dust, coal, vehicle, and industry, according to an analysis on particulate matter, from 2012 to April 2014, by the municipal environmental protection dept.
Tianjin's people will be expected to help control air pollution and protect the atmosphere, explains Gao Shaolin, head of the municipal People's Congress Standing Committee, who says that the fight against air pollution needs broad public support and the public are being encouraged to monitor and get involving in dealing with air pollution.
The regulation calls for more environmental information and a list of major corporate polluters and illegal activities and the penalties. At the same time, pollution producers will need to reveal the type and amount of their air pollution, and any and all corporations and individuals are asked to report on any air pollution, and will get a reward for their work.
And, if the government and environmental protection department do not do their work, corporations and individuals are encouraged to report it to procurators, and the corporations and individuals who report illegal activities will get special protection.
The regulation has 11 chapters and 97 ordinances and got approved during the 3rd Session of the 16th Tianjin Municipal People's Congress this January.
