It’s still a month away from the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 8th. But it’s quite hard to book a table for New Year’s Eve in a Tianjin restaurant.
A member with Tianjin’s restaurant association said that about 250,000 tables have been booked so far, and the prices of food and drinks for each table ranging from 800 yuan ($122) to 2800 yuan ($428).
Many online platforms seized the opportunity to offer discount meals and semi-finished products to win a share of the lunar new year market.
On Tmall,China’s largest business-to-customer marketplace, customers can find hundreds of choices for the dinner. Foods online are cheaper and sometimes only half the price of real restaurants.
A Suzhou-based food-processing enterprise offers semi-finished products for the lunar new year. Fourteen hot dishes, including three seafood dishes, cost just 398 yuan ($61).
The company’s customer services said that all the materials are good and fresh. After customers order online, the frozen-packed food is delivered by air.
Some popular restaurants and hotels in Tianjin also offer e-booking services. Customers can use Wechat, a popular messaging app, and scan a QR code to book automatically.
According to the Chinese zodiac, 2016 is the Year of Monkey. Monkeys are considered cheerful and energetic by nature and usually represent flexibility.
