Tianjin opened its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) station in Binhai New Area, offering cleaner energy for public buses, sanitation and large transport vehicles, reported the Bohai Morning Post on March 17.

He Jianguo, vice general manager of the Tianjin Guoneng Investment Corporation, said a storage tank of 60 cubic meters and four charging machines were built at the station, which can supply a total of 30 tons of LNG for around 300 vehicles each day.

He said that LNG, a world-recognized clean energy, is cheaper, safer, and more environmentally-friendly than traditional fuels.

The integration of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region calls for replacing coal and oil with gases, reducing smog and keeping PM 2.5 under control. Burning one ton of LNG emits two tons less carbon dioxide than a ton of coal .

LNG is widely used for heavy transport vehicles and costs 30 percent less than traditional fuels.

About 30 clean energy stations will be built in Tianjin over the next three years.
