Chinese Finance Museum — the 8th national finance museum in the world
June 2010 witnessed the unveiling of Chinese Finance Museum, a professional museum that offers comprehensive introduction to China’s financial history, presents financial knowledge, and connects the present financial industry to future development. The museum is located at 29 Jiefangbei Road, Heping District, at the center of Tianjin Finance City.
Chinese Finance Museum is the world’s 8th state-level finance museum. In the 2,400 square meters museum are collections of nearly 200 items of currency, financial instruments, and precious financial relics from China and foreign countries. The collections fall into five parts. The first part is the financial history and status quo, including the origin and development of currency, financial institutions and financial instruments, financial markets, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, international financial institutions, etc. The second part is finance and us, including finance and entrepreneurs, finance and industry, finance and war, finance and politics, finance and science, finance and art, etc. The third part is Chinese monetary history, including the folk evolvement of Chinese currency, financial history of Tianjin, celebrities in finance, financial milestones, etc. The fourth part is financial crisis and financial tsunami, including the subprime crisis, consumer credit, the great depression, the 1987 crash, economic cycle, the Asian financial crisis, hyperinflation, financial fraud and scandals. The fifth part is thematic exhibitions, including gold exhibition, currency exhibition, Jiefangbei Road finance history exhibition, Binhai New Area financial core planning exhibition, etc.
With brand-new design concepts and multiple means of presentation, the finance museum demonstrates a condensed history of financial development across one hundred years. The museum has become a public platform for exhibitions, trainings, performances, forums and welfare activities, and a new cultural landmark in Tianjin Finance City. The establishment of the finance museum plays a positive role in spreading financial knowledge, imparting financial concepts, interpreting financial innovations, focusing on financial problems, and promoting peer exchanges and cooperation in finance.
