The port of Tianjin sees its increasingly important role in China's cargo transportation both through land and sea.

The port of Tianjin has kept a leading position among other cities in throughput to Europe and Central Asia. In 2017, it sent out 61000 TEUs of cargos to the two areas, up 28.5 percent year-on-year. In the first five months of this year, 29000 TEUs has been transported, an increase of 17.8 percent compared to last year.

Tianjin, the main maritime gateway to Beijing, an important point of Eurasian Continental Bridge and China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, will serve as a strategic point in cargo transportation with China's trade with Eurasia countries thriving.

It is also preparing to become the meeting point of the belt and the road after "Multimodal Container Transport Demonstration of Tianjin Port in China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor" concluded in national demonstration project.

The first northern "Chinese-Mongolian-Russian" sea-railway transit transport corridor jointly built by COSCO SHIPPING Group, China Railway Corporation, and Tianjin Port Group Corporation was officially put into use in January. "Tianjin now has three sea-railway channels to Europe and Central Asia, through these channels, our cargos can reach Shanghai Cooperation Organization members such as Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan" said a related staff.

The sea-railway channel not only shortens transit time by 14 days but also substantially cuts down cost to 1 kg/yuan. This will make products from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area highly competitive.

Cargos concentrated in Tianjin come from Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and Southeast coast cities, including home appliances, furniture, building materials, electronic products etc.

Tianjin will push the trade forward among China, Mongolia, and Russia and offer its part in facilitating the One Belt and One Road development.
