The city will replace most of its 11,000 buses with environmentally friendly versions before the Games.

There are about 12 million commuters each day, mostly taking buses and subways. The city will upgrade and expand the subway systems before and after the Games.

Close to 2,000 staff now work for the organizing committee

40 percent of the staff have master's degrees and many have studied or worked overseas.

The committee will also have about 230 foreign staff by the start of the Games.

BOCOG was established on December 13, 2001, exactly five months after Beijing won its Olympic bid in Moscow. The committee will be dissolved after the Beijing Paralympic Games, which will be held one month after the end of the Olympics.
