The General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi Jinping reminded all Party members of the importance of looking back and learning from the past when the new leadership visited the exhibition on "Road toward Rejuvenation" of the Chinese nation recently. Examining the present and looking into the future, Xi demonstrated the CPC's historical consciousness and responsibility, says an article in People's Daily. Excerpts:
History embodies the philosophy of prosperity as well as decline. The intriguing episodes in the exhibition on the "Road toward Rejuvenation" of China reproduce the historical moments, which among other things show that corruption and economic and technological backwardness have contributed to the suffering of Chinese people.
The nation has risen again because the people have stood up and striven for development.
During the past century, despite sacrificing their lives for the revolution, several generations of patriots failed to fulfill their mission. But the CPC has kept playing its important role and led the Chinese people to finish the new democratic revolution and socialist revolution, develop socialism with Chinese characteristics and change the fate of the country and its people. Only by following this path can the Chinese people live a better life and rejuvenate the nation.
Chinese people's continuous struggle since the Opium War and the remarkable progress the nation has made since then is the theme of the nation's rejuvenation. We should base our efforts on the national reality to build an all-round well-off society. But we have to continue promoting development through unremitting efforts and reform and innovation.
Only by keeping in mind what Xi said at the exhibition can Party members remain committed to their ideals, and people work together to accomplish higher goals and win greater glory for the nation.
