Mexicans re-enact battle with France

Soldiers wearing period costumes take part in a re-enactment of the battle of Puebla, in Puebla May 5, 2012. The battle marked the defeat of French forces by Mexican troops and local Indians in the central state of Puebla in 1862. During the re-enactment, participants fired homemade shotguns loaded with gunpowder and hundreds of men dressed as female Indian peasants with blackened faces, straw hats and embroidered blouses fought mock battles against French invaders in white bloomers.
